Segmented Ceramics.

Today I want to share some of my favorite work. In creating these I question if I didn't develop a new process in ceramics. These combine Wheel throwing, hand building with cut extruded coils, lots of time, and lots of forgiveness.

At one time during my undergraduate work, I discussed how I would classify these and what kind of working method they could best be described by. I came up with Segmented Ceramics. I would be happy to be corrected, but until then, I'll stick with Segmented ceramics. Im not sure where I fit as an artist. I am a big time potter. I make large work, and I have enjoyed making large amounts of functional pottery.

Here's where I add some conflict into the mix. I have a secret love for wood turing. I enjoy the way it works and the process of removing surface material to revel the vessel inside. I have put real effort into developing my skills as a wood turner. Im not the best, but I'd like to think I have some skills. So am I a potter or a Wood turner?

Long story short, One day I was looking at the work of another wood turner. I loved his segmented woodturning. I then had the idea to segment my pottery. These are some of the pieces I have made as a result of that influence.
